Nusantara Coffee Farming

From fertile volcanic soils to high mountain peaks, Indonesia has ideal conditions for producing world-class coffee.

Key Coffee Varietals

Arabica

Grown at 1,000–2,000 masl. Complex flavors with moderate acidity, floral aromas, and tropical fruit nuances.

📍 Gayo, Kintamani, Toraja, Bajawa

Robusta

Grows at lowlands up to 800 masl. Strong body, high caffeine, characteristic earthy and chocolate flavors.

📍 Lampung, Flores, Java

Liberica

Rare varietal with larger fruit. Unique smoky aroma, fruity flavor with a distinctive woody character.

📍 Riau Islands, Kalimantan

Ideal Altitude

Altitude affects the ripening rate of coffee cherries. Higher altitude means slower ripening and more complex flavors.

Highlands (1,000–2,000 masl): Premium Arabica, complex & bright acidity
Mid Elevation (500–1,000 masl): Transition zone, medium-bodied flavors
Lowlands (0–500 masl): Robusta, bold and earthy flavors

Soil Conditions

Indonesia's volcanic soils are mineral-rich with excellent drainage — the perfect combination for coffee growth.

  • Volcanic Soil: Mineral-rich, pH 5.5–6.5, ideal for Arabica
  • Humidity: 1,500–3,000 mm/year rainfall supports optimal growth
  • Shade Trees: Slow down ripening, increase flavor complexity
